Form of the Present Simple

How do we form the Present Simple?

We use the infinitive of the verb. In the 3rd person singular (he, she, it – or a name) we put an -s to the end of the infinitive.

infinitive → 3rd person singular (he, she, it) infinitive + s

1. Affirmative sentences in the Simple Present

  • I work in a shop.
  • You work in a shop.
  • He works in a shop.
  • She works in a shop.
  • It works in a shop.
  • We work in a shop.
  • You work in a shop.
  • They work in a shop.

he, she, it → Do not forget the -s.

2. Negative sentences in the Present Simple

We use the auxiliary do/does.

  • I do not work in a shop.
  • You do not work in a shop.
  • He does not work in a shop.
  • She does not work in a shop.
  • It does not work in a shop.
  • We do not work in a shop.
  • You do not work in a shop.
  • They do not work in a shop.
